How are the interfaces labeled on a switch or router?

since the second nic is tied to the first, it umes the first o in the series, if there was no other controller, there would not be a third zero. ..type ipconfig /all at a dos prompt to see how your ip addresses translate along the same lines, kind of like multi(0) disk(0) rdisk(0) partition(1) being your windows partition in nt's version of dos addressing.multi(0) disk(0) rdisk(1)partiion(0) being your secondary master cdrom, and your primary slave being multi(o)disk(1)rdisk (0) partition (1) being a single partition (drive e:) on a second physical drive on the first ide (slave).......gets confusing, huh...just the way they wanted it....
